Maryland Police Officer Injured By Alleged DUI Driver In 'Horrific' Head-On Crash

A Maryland police officer on his way to work on Sunday morning suffered serious injuries after being struck head-on by a suspected impaired driver, officials say.

Acting Aberdeen Police Cpl. James Haddix was on his way to the department at approximately 4 a.m. on Sunday, May 28 from his Delaware home when he was hit by another driver on the Christiana Parkway.

Police Capt. William Reiber said that "the accident was horrific, with both vehicles destroyed." 

Haddix suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash and was rushed to the Christiana Hospital for treatment and evaluation.

He was listed in "serious, but stable condition," on Tuesday, May 30. 

No information about the allegedly impaired driver was released by the Newark Police Department in Delaware, which is investigating the incident.
